BiomechanicsOrthotics

What is Biomechanics?

Biomechanics is the study of the structure, function, and motion of a living body.

The human body is made up of a complex system of muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments.  When we move, each of these components must work together.  If any one component is not working correctly, we will experience pain or discomfort as we move.  Biomechanics aims to understand the relationship between the different parts of the human body and to offer treatments for common problems including joint and muscle pain.

Why have an assessment?

If you are experiencing pain in your joints, muscles, or tendons, particularly in your feet, ankles, legs, or lower back, a biomechanical assessment may be able to find the cause of the problem, and offer practical ways to manage or reduce your pain.

What does an assessment involve?

A biomechanical assessment takes approximately 1 hour to complete.  We will assess how your feet and legs operate, as well as your muscle strength and flexibility.

What treatment is available after an assessment?

Once we have completed your assessment, we will discuss whether your condition can be rectified with a program of exercises, as well as discuss suitable footwear.  It may also be necessary to fit orthotic inserts in your shoes.

If orthotics are required we will discuss the type of orthotics available.
